The latest draft of IS:456 marks a major shift from earlier editions. In this 5th revision, prestressed concrete design is included and the code is retitled “Structural Concrete: Code of Practice”, leading to the withdrawal of IS:1343-2012 after publication. Six design criteria-strength, serviceability, durability, robustness, integrity, and restorability-have been introduced. New concepts of durability, service life, and time-dependent concrete properties (based on CEB-FIB Model Code 2020) are included, along with provisions for fire, blast, and impact design.
With expert faculty drawn from the code-drafting team, this workshop offers a valuable opportunity to understand and interpret the new IS:456 draft.
